1. Who are eligible for a Vietnam Visa Exemption (also referred to as "5-year visa to Viet Nam")
- All Vietnamese nationals residing in the United States who are not holding a valid Vietnamese passport are eligible to apply for a Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate if he/she has:(a) At least one document proving Vietnamese origin (as listed in item 4.1.d below);
(b) a US passport/equivalent travel document with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Viet Nam;
If the applicant does not possess a valid US passport/travel document, he/she must submit a copy of a valid US Permanent Resident card issued by competent US authority with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Viet Nam;
- All US citizens who are spouses and children of Vietnamese nationals residing in the United States are eligible to apply for a Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate if he/she has:
(a) At least one document as listed in item 4.2.d below;
(b) A valid foreign passport or equivalent travel document with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Viet Nam.
2. Two (02) forms of Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate:
The Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate has 02 forms:
- A stamped certificate (which is sticked on the holder's US passport).
- A detached certificate (in booklet form, about the size of a passport), to be brought together with the holder's passport or Green Card to travel to Viet Nam.
Both forms of the certificate are equally valid. The applicant may choose to apply for whichever form most suitable to his/her particular need.
3. Validity of the Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate:
- A Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate is valid for a maximum period of 05 years, or 06 months less than the expiration date of the holder's passport/travel document, if the passport/travel document's validity is less than 05 years by the time of submission.
- With a Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate, passenger can stay in Viet Nam for a maximum period of 180 days for each visit, and the duration of stay can be extended in Viet Nam for a maximum period of another 180 days.
4. Documents to be submitted (applications can be submitted in person or by email to the Embassy):
4.1. For Vietnamese residing abroad:
a. 01 online application form for Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate (you MUST fill out the online form here, then print out).
b. 02 recent color photos (2 x 2 inches, white background, straight head, no sunglasses and/or head), of which 01 photo is glued on the form and 01 photo is stapled with it.
c. The original AND 01 copy of the passport or equivalent travel document (i.e.: Permanent Resident Card or Green Card) with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Viet Nam.
d. 01 copy of at least 01 of the following documents:
- Certificate of Vietnamese citizenship;
- Vietnamese Birth Certificate;
- Expired Vietnamese passport (valid Vietnamese passport's holder does not need a visa to travel to Viet Nam AND is not eligible for a Visa Exemption Certificate);
- Vietnamese Identity Card (valid or expired);
- Family/Household Registration Book;
- Any document issued by a competent authority certifying the concerned individual originally has Vietnamese citizenship or Vietnamese origin.
e. A money order or cashier's check for the fees made out to “EMBASSY OF VIET NAM” (if you submit your application in person at the Embassy or by Email, payment can be made by credit card).
(The Embassy shall return the original documents upon completed processing of the application).
4.2. For foreigners who are spouses/children of Vietnamese nationals residing abroad:
a) 01 online application form for Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate (you MUST fill out the online form here, then print out);
b) 02 recent color photos (2 x 2 inches, white background, straight head, no sunglasses and/or head), of which 01 photo is glued on the form and 01 photo is stapled with it;
c) The original OR 01 copy of the passport with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Vietnam;
d) 01 copy of at least 01 of the following documents (as proof of the relationship between concerned individuals):
- Certificate of Marriage;
- Birth Certificate;
- Certificate of Relationship with Parent/Child;
- Decision on Child Adoption;
- Other valid documents as stipulated by Vietnamese laws.
- A money order or cashier's check for the fees made out to “EMBASSY OF VIET NAM” (if you submit your application in person at the Embassy, payment can be made in cash or by credit card).
(The Embassy shall return the original documents upon completed processing of the application).
4.3. If you wish to receive your Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate sent back by mail, you need to provide a self-addressed prepaid return envelope. To ensure safe deliver
(b) a US passport/equivalent travel document with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Viet Nam;
If the applicant does not possess a valid US passport/travel document, he/she must submit a copy of a valid US Permanent Resident card issued by competent US authority with validity of at least 06 months up to the date of entry into Viet Nam;
- All US citizens who are spouses and children of Vietnamese nationals residing in the United States are eligible to apply for a Vietnam Visa Exemption Certificate if he/she has:
